Story Behind the Song
main~stream tries out a 4-track on one of their first songs, with some success. This song was recorded in a 4 hour period in early 1998. It was originally written in April 1997. The lyrics and music, unlike most main~stream productions, were actually planned out and written along with the music. The lyrics spell a story of a bitter protagonist who decides to end the world since he can't be with the one he loves. It's supposed to be sad, but some fans seem to get a sadistic pleasure from it. The vocals have been doubled to give that smoooooth pop sound. E. Robert Frank was heard to quip: "That is the most obscene thing I have ever heard."
Lyrics
Destroy the World
I sit alone with my thoughts
cause that's all I've ever had
ponder what to do tommorrow
then I realize there won't be one
cause I've got a plan of action
to destroy everything in sight
alas, I'd take you with me
guess I'll just have to take you out
PRE-CHORUS
Too bad I couldn't find you
outside with the chirping bird
under that beautiful tree
well I hope you'll think of me
CHORUS
When I destroy the world
When I destroy the world
When I destroy the world
I hope you'll think of me
I never thought this would happen
like back when I was seven
I wanted to be an astronaut
Well we'll all be in space soon
<PRE-CHORUS>
<CHORUS>
You say no one will remember
because they'll all be dead
Well no one thinks of me now
So I might as well kill them
<PRE-CHORUS>
<CHORUS>
Think of me...
I hope you'll think of me.
